The biggest problem white LED’s have always had was there inability to match their older cousins (incandescent or neon light bulbs) in the lumens department (brightness). Well not anymore, Osram has announced that they've pushed white LEDs to world-record brightness. Osram’s lab was able to squeezed 500 lumens out of a single LED at 1.4A. How bright is that? I have no idea but according to Gizmodo “That's bright enough for projector tech, and certainly makes the single unit good for car lighting and even interior lights.” Wahooo, cell phone projectors and road clearing bicycle lights here we come!
