Sanyo Electric Co Ltd will launch the "Xacti DMX-HD800," a camcorder supporting 720p HDTV resolution, in Japan. It is a successor to the DMX-HD700, which is a mid-end model in its Xacti series. The DMX-HD800 will be the first model in the series that is equipped with a 3D noise reduction function to enhance the movie quality. Sanyo expects that the retail price will be about ¥50,000 (approx US$462) although there is no manufacturer's suggested price. To enable the 3D noise reduction function, the camcorder uses an image processing LSI dubbed "Platinum Σ engine". Random noise generated along the time-axis can be reduced by the 3D noise reduction function increasing compressing by 10-15%. The other features are an 8-Mpixel 1/2.5-inch CMOS image sensor and face detection and chaser functions.
